“And as far as false hope, there is no such thing. There is only hope or the absence of hope – nothing else.” – Patti Davis
In 2013, I started this blog to share our story of hope, spread awareness of childhood cancer, and make accessible much needed information and resources for those fighting DSRCT.
My son, Cole, is an amazing boy who battled the rare cancer from 2006 to 2015. I hope to help others by sharing the insight and experience that I’ve gained throughout our journey. If you are facing the rare diagnosis of desmoplastic small round cell tumor (DSRCT) I hope you find insight, inspiration, and HOPE on this blog. Please feel free to reach out to me directly with questions or to share your own Story of Hope.
My son’s long, hard fight against DSRCT ended in 2015 after complications from a liver resection left him too sick to tolerate treatment, eventually, the cancer got ahead of us. But he fought over 8 years, and lived a full life for most of that time. Cole lived a BIG, WIDE life, despite it’s unfair shortness. He touched many hearts, inspired many lives, and showed the true meaning of HOPE in all he did. I am so proud of my boy. He is so very missed.
Despite his ultimate passing Cole redefined expectations for DSRCT outcomes. Cole’s story was a guide and a light of hope to many over the years he fought. He remained positive, and never forgot what he was fighting for. My boy just wanted to live, but he also wanted what he went through to help others. I still believe ours is a story of HOPE, of overcoming, and of living despite the odds.
